Smartlink has New Monitoring Solution for Airports, Transit Centers and Malls

Outdoorlink has developed a new product to remotely monitor digital device behavior and power consumption.   The product is designed for airports, transit centers, malls and high traffic digital signs.  Billboard Insider talked with Jenni Evans, VP Transit Solutions at Smartlink to learn more.

How does the Vantage system work?

The SmartLink Vantage controller gets hardwired to devices such as media players, WIFI routers and LCD display, and through an optical sensor, confirms the actual content on the LCD display.  SmartLink Vantage receives the “Video In” content from the media player and confirms whether it matches what’s actually displayed on the LCD display.  When discrepancies arise, Vantage sends an alarm through an independent LTE cellular connection to the SmartLink server and users are notified via email.  Alarms include Loss of Power, No Display Detected, No Video Input, and No Content on Screen.  Once users are made aware of an issue, they can immediately start troubleshooting in the SmartLink portal to resolve the downtime remotely.

Using SmartLink Vantage’s verification technology adds a level of quality assurance for the advertiser by ensuring uptime and increasing efficiency for operators.

Is it basically an extension of the existing smartlink system to airports, transit and malls?

The SmartLink Vantage controller includes all the health monitoring features of traditional SmartLink controllers with an added feature to validate content on digital displays. It’s particularly valuable for screens located in Airports, Transit Centers and Malls because these are often challenging locations to access digital assets for troubleshooting, or restrict the usage of cameras to confirm the content on displays. SmartLink Vantage removes the need for camera monitoring or in-person site checks to know if digital content is accurate and enables remote troubleshooting to resolve issues before customers become aware.

What advantages does Vantage offer operators?

  1. Instant email notifications of content issues and power outages
  2. Immediate troubleshooting from any desktop or mobile device
  3. Detects common issues such as loss of power, stuck video, no input, and pop up detection
  4. No need for security keys, ladders, trucks or multiple Operators to access and troubleshoot devices
  5. Operators can focus on high-priority problem locations and avoid unnecessary site checks on healthy assets
  6. Operators can scale up digital inventory without needing more manual labor
  7. SmartLink is a great Contractor Management tool with a time stamped history of when devices were installed, an Image library for each location, and logs all User activity so there is a record of who, what, when and where.
  8. Reduced travel time to and from assets, which reduces a team’s carbon footprint and contributes to its Sustainability / Corporate Responsibility
