Michael Palatnek: Using Social Media to Market Your OOH Company

Michael Palatnek, Founder and CEO, Phoenix Social

Michael Palatnek recently founded Phoenix Social after a stint as CEO of Posterscope USA.  Billboard Insider talked with him about the new venture.

You’ve had a varied career with out of home operators (Clear Channel Outdoor, Titan) and out of home specialist agencies (C2C and most recently Posterscope).  What have you learned?
Great question.  On the operator side I focused on sales. In that role whether it’s as an AE or in management you’re trying to help customers solve problems. Listening is really an art, and something that needs to be focused on more than ever.  It’s how and why we launched C2C, to help simplify the OOH process for clients. For me, there’s nothing more enjoyable than building a business, that’s the entrepreneur in me. You need a great team to succeed, and I’ve always believed that you need to surround yourself with people smarter then you with skill sets in areas that help compliment your weaknesses.
What mistakes do you see out of home companies make on social media?
Believe it or not, many underestimate the power of good visuals on social media which is so ironic since creative visuals is one of the main pillars or each business especially OOH! We focus on developing a strategy for each social media channel. Each channel has a different demographic in which you have to cater to, you really don’t want to sync content across all channels. Last but not least, underestimating the power of cadence and engagement. Being purposeful everyday puts you top of mind when a potential client suddenly needs something. In many ways social isn’t that different then OOH from a branding perspective.
How can Phoenix Social help out of home companies?
Phoenix Social offers a strategic like approach and beautiful visuals help bring OOH brands into the 21st Century. It’s not uncommon for our clients to see 100% growth in certain social metrics. Last but not least, we’re in the final stages of an offering that will bring a social media amplification component to OOH campaigns. More to come on that soon 🙂
What out of home companies are you working with now?
We have NDA’s with with most of our clients but our partners include OOH operators, OOH Specialists, Printers, and non-traditional OOH companies.
