Grey Vick on Helping When You Can

Insider wrote last week about Grey Outdoor and their donation of a structure to assist Stacey Ridgeway who had crushed his T12 vertebrae in a hunting accident fall.  What we did not get to do was talk directly with Grey Vick, owner of Grey Outdoor.  We did catch up with Grey this week and here is that conversation.

Grey Vick, Owner, Grey Outdoor

Grey, how did you get involved in assisting the Ridgeways? Did you know Stacey?

Actually, I didn’t know Stacey at all.

I was approached by Jamie Prevatte who works for the Coastal Companies, a local builder and developer, who we have provided billboard advertising for in the past. she called and said they had a friend / colleague who needed help and asked if I would help and run the billboard, and of course I agreed to do it to try and help. There was no cost involved and we ran it as a pre-emptable ad on a digital we had an open slot on. It turned out to be a great use of that space!

How long did you have the display up on your digital structure?

We ran it for about 3 months until they notified us that someone who saw the billboard had offered to help take care of all of their families needs.
I noticed that the GoFundMe site has raised about $20K to date.  What is the goal and the additional needs Stacey and his wife Brandy will have for his recovery?

Here is an answer from Jamie at Coastal Companies.Grey, I am not entirely sure. The original goal was for $50k to cover the cost of the Ford truck and the couple purchased it out right for them after seeing the billboard. My guess is anything raised would benefit the family’s medical and living expenses.

Since Stacey is unable to continue as a plumber to provide for his family he has a woodworking shop where he sells cutting boards through the new Heritage Market in Supply NC.

Grey, we are glad this had a successful outcome.  Am I right in assuming you get other calls to help out with  fund raisers or with charitable groups? As a business owner, how do you decide which opportunities to chose?

Typically we try to run all of them if we have any digital slots open we will run the ads on a pre-emptable basis.
