How did you get started in site development.

When I went to work with Tom Martin, Martin Communications…That was back in the early 90’s…They were building signs in Ventura County and down in Palm Springs.  I learned from one of the best Joe Cubeiro.  He taught me the real estate development and leasing business.

What makes a good out of home advertising site.

Land that is zoned correctly that is a non-landscaped section of the freeway and in a city which gives the billboard company the right to build the billboard versus having to go through the CUP process or a development agreement.

What’s the toughest site you’ve developed.

The toughest site is the site where the city is not excited about giving you a permit where you have to spend time converting the city counsel and then you have to spend time with staff and go through the process.  Those have taken 4-5-6 years to develop.  The most difficult location that I built was up in the San Fernando valley off Van Nuys Boulevard and the 5 freeway.  We had very little room to build and a lot of it was done with a very very small auger and we had to shovel the dirt out of the location in wheelbarrows and then load them into the truck…
