Cone on Subcontractor Insurance

Last week Billboard Insider discussed how to compensate out of home subcontractors.  Cone Companies Brian Cone reminds Billboard Insider that you need to require subcontractors to carry insurance.

What insurance should an out of home company require from contractors?

An out of home advertising subcontractor should be required to carry General Liability insurance  which protects against lawsuits that arise from bodily injury or property damage resulting from their work.  Most out of home companies require their subcontractors to carry the same General Liability limits that they themselves carry.

What about workers compensation coverage?

General Liability policies do not cover losses from bodily injury to employees of the subcontractor. Therefore out of home companies should also require their subcontractors to carry Workers Compensation Insurance. Workers Compensation Insurances requirements and regulations vary from state to state. Even if a state does not require a subcontractor to carry Workers Compensation Insurance,  the out of home company can require it so that they are protected. The subcontractor’s insurance agent handles sending you certificates, or proof of insurance for these coverages.
