Black Lives Matter Billboard Goes Up Next to Confederate Flag

Billboards aren’t a critical forum for public speech?  Think again.  Some community groups put up  Black Lives Matter copy on a Lamar billboard outside a North Carolina business which is flying the confederate flag.

Insider’s take:  Another example of how billboards are speech.  They allow different voices in the community to engage in the discussion of public issues.

  1. Apparently the Lamar billboard is coming down at the end of Their lease. mr White wasn’t pleased with the ad on his property

  2. When it’s states the board is “coming down at the end of the Lamar lease” leads me to believe the structure itself is coming down at the end of the lease. Meaning White does not in fact own the structure. A very common misconception by landowners is that they own the billboard on their property when they have only leased the land and the BB company owns the billboard. The landlord has no right to damage, deface or alter the structure in any way.
