Adams Outdoor Uses OOH to Fight Racial Violence

Charlotte closed 2020 as the most violent year in the city’s history since 1993, with 129 homicides.

This is just a microcosmic example of the national violence and the systemic racism that has taken over the news and people’s thoughts.

After the brutal murder of George Floyd by the hands of police and the subsequent riots and protests that followed throughout the nation, Kevin Gleason, CEO of Adams Outdoor Advertising, challenged his team of managers to find a way to be a voice for change in each of the company’s markets. As members of the industry, we know the power of OOH’s voice is undeniable.  How could we harness this to actually enact change?

Jeannine Dodson, our General Manager here at Adams in Charlotte, NC, wanted to support an organization actively taking steps to make a change in our local community.

100 Black Men of Charlotte, a chapter of 100 Black Men of America, is an organization working to improve the quality of life for African American youths by providing services in education, health and wellness, and economic empowerment.

With rising rates of violence and homicides in Charlotte, Adams Outdoor Advertising has partnered with 100 Black Men of Charlotte to initiate the “Stop the Violence” campaign. There are currently more than 30 billboards throughout the Charlotte area, aimed at galvanizing the community in violence prevention discussions. This campaign represents Phase 1 of a multi-step initiative. It will be followed by phases where community businesses and citizens will participate in panel discussions to provide a venue for citizen’s voices to be heard.
